I had a big year in 2018, with lots of celebrations including my wedding in Brazil in August and then again in Australia in December. Followed by a cruise with my family and then a honeymoon in Africa. I most certainly can’t complain at what an amazing year I had! But with all of this celebration came some extra weight gain.
Staying healthy and at your ideal weight is a life long journey. We all have different seasons, we also have age and hormonal changes to contend with as we go, making it that much more challenging.
It is so tempting to go on a diet and to banish the weight gain but I will NOT do this and this is the reason…
The reality is that we all know how to lose weight, in fact, I can lose weight very easily. But it means deprivation, feeling hungry all the time, being unsociable and generally feeling being a grumpy bum at the world for weeks or months on end. This is not good for anyone’s mental health, let alone the body itself. It is not being loving or kind towards yourself.
What then typically happens with a diet or this type of diet mentality is that once you are at your goal, the ‘diet’ stops and you go back to your old ways. This means that the weight comes back and possibly more fiercely than before.
The real key is true change, which leads to lasting transformation. LASTING CHANGE is the key. No one wants a temporary fix, but when we go on a diet this is what we are getting, a temporary fix.
Small important changes that are sustainable, is what will bring true change. Things like, moving more, drinking more water, drinking less wine, cutting down on treats, having smaller portions, eating out less and eating in more, removing processed food and upping your veggie intake.
Not to mention mental changes, such as being grateful for the body you have as it is now. How many times have you looked at a photo and thought, ‘I thought I was so fat back then, but look at how good I looked’! We have all done that, and that is us not being happy with what we have or had. Be grateful for how amazing your body is, even if right now it is carrying a little more-fat than you would prefer.
Everyone is different, we all have different requirements and different habits that we cling on to.
