Sugar Free Caramelised Onions

28/11/2013 By Caralee 1 Comment

Caramalised Onions
I love caramelised onions, they are a perfect addition to burgers, steak or just because! Before my real food pledge, I used to make them all the time, but with loads of brown sugar. I was really surprised with how great this sugar free version turned out.

INGREDIENTS

2 Onions
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
Pinch of sea salt
1 tablespoon coconut aminos

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cut the onions in half, then slice up
  2. Put the olive oil in a heated pan & add the onions
  3. Gently cook on medium low & stir every so often so that the onions don’t burn
  4. Add the salt & let sauté for about 15 minutes, stirring each minute
  5. They will go a caramel colour
  6. After 15 minutes add the coconut aminos and stir into onions
  7. Let caramelise for a further 5 minutes
  8. Serve hot of cold at a later stage
