I have been having a wonderful time at the Your Local Markets sharing my recipes and real food inspirations at my pop up cooking school. It has been an amazing opportunity to meet so many people who are all on their own food journeys, to share some delicious recipes and to hand out some lovely little real food treats.
The farmers markets are the perfect location for my pop up cooking school, because all the ingredients that I use can be brought from the local farmers markets, such as honey, fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds and eggs. I love teaching people that they don’t need to rely on large chain supermarkets and that the majority of their food can come from a local farmer or supplier. Shopping at the local farmers markets does two things, it keeps you healthy and it supports a local farmer and their family. It gave me great pleasure to cook at the markets with ingredients that I sourced there.
The recipes that I have been demonstrating at the pop up cooking school are from my recipe and lifestyle book, Real Food Pledge. Over the past two weeks I have demonstrated how to make the triple chocolate bliss balls, tangy lime and coconut bliss balls, seed toast, strawberry and almond slice and the mini raw carrot cakes with cashew cream. It is quite hot of the Gold Coast at this time of year, so outdoor cooking has had its challenges, particularly making raw treat, but it all taste the same even if it is a bit crumbly.
My favourite part of the pop up cooking school is that taste testing! People that are new to the concept of gluten, dairy and sugar living are surprised at how delicious these treats are. Even I can resist trying a sample… it is all so good!
The pop up cooking schools have been so much fun that I will be do more of them. In the next few weeks I will attend the Palm Beach Farmers Markets. Who knows where my pop up cooking school will ‘pop up’ next so stay tuned to my facebook page here and instagram feed here.
I would love to see you at the next one!
