I have been so excited to be working with Jo from The Luminous Kitchen again on another project which I will announce soon. Jo is the very amazing food stylist and photographer that styled and took all the images in my cookbook Real Food Pledge.
Jo and I started food blogging around the same time in 2013 and we happen to live in the next suburb from each other, not that we knew that at the time. I discovered Jo on instagram when I was looking around for a food stylist to help me make the Real Food Pledge Cookbook amazing, which Jo successfully did. If you have got a copy of the book, I am sure that you will agree that Jo’s photos makes my recipes look awesome!
What amazes me about Jo and her incredible skills as a food stylist and photographer is that she only picked up a camera for the first time in October 2013! Her talent and passion for food styling and photography shines through her photos. By October 2014 Jo already had two cookbooks under her belt and since that time she is fast becoming a big name in food styling and has been in demand for projects such as Apps, magazines, cookbooks and blogs.
WHAT HAPPENS BEHIND THE SCENES
So what does a day behind the scenes shooting photos with a food stylist look like??…… A crazy whirlwind of props and food! No kidding, there are a lot of props. Boards, plates, pans, knifes, cloth and all manner of random items. Jo has gathered the most interesting collection of props, a lot of which are from op shops. She collects items that I would pick up and think it had no use but she has the knack of knowing how she can make that item look amazing in a photograph.
Jo and I plan out the day before I arrive via email, this give her the opportunity to think about the layouts and me the chance to prepare what recipes I can prior to arriving. Once I have unpacked my goodies, we get straight into action which involves me racing around the kitchen preparing what I need to for the next shoot, while Jo sets to task getting her creative genius flowing. Jo is never short of incredible ideas on how to make my recipes look delicious!
After a mountain of laughing, cooking, washing dishes, shooting photos, building scenes and eating (there is lots of eating, well we have to test the recipes as we go!) the day is over and the final result is between 8 and 11 beautiful images that are drool worthy!
Creating beautiful recipes that I am really proud of and that inspire others to live a healthy lifestyle has fast become my passion. It is topped off in such a special way when I have the opportunity to work with Jo who brings my recipes to life where the food is captured in the most incredible way. I am so looking forward to letting you all know what Jo and I have been creating. Stay tuned!
