Bangkok’s Exotic Treats

18/12/2013 By Caralee 3 Comments

Pomegranate Juice
The food in Thailand is so amazing & fresh that I don’t even know where to begin. The other thing that I absolutely love, is that fresh food is on every corner, nook & cranny of the city in Bangkok. Every where you look there is someone pushing a cart selling some exotic delight for next to no money.

There are juice carts with the choice of either orange juice or pomegranate juice. The carts are filled with fresh fruit & the vendor squeeze the juice by hand as they push the cart around in the Bangkok heat. Once the juice is squeezed they bottle it & sell it for about 30 Baht which converts to $1AU/US.

The Thai guy selling the pomegranate juice did not give me much choice but to buy his weirs. I was looking curiously & taking photos of his cart & he cracked the lid before I had time to object. He told me that if I didn’t love it he would give me my money back. He had obviously said that 1000 times before, knowing that the pomegranate juice would be heaven in my mouth. I did not need a refund!Market
As you know if you read my blog, I love coconut & use it all the time in my cooking. I was delighted when I came across this beautiful little treat at the same market that I found the pomegranate juice. It is freshly made coconut ice cream. When the vendor served it, he shaved the fresh coconut meat on the inside of the shell which was beautiful to eat. Served with a topping of peanuts. YUM!Coconut Ice Cream
My next post will be about my day out on the Chao Phrya River in Bangkok, the food, river people & cat fish!
