On the weekend I went to Stanthorpe, which is located on the Granite Belt, about a two and a half hours drive West of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The area around Stanthorpe is beautiful wine country, full of boutique vineyards and country charm. The characters that we met were just wonderful too. Every wine property had a beautiful wine dog to welcome us and a unique history.
Unlike down on the Gold Coast or Brisbane there are four season’s around the Granite Belt, last year there was even a heavy snow fall in July. The Autumn colours were spectacular and it was lovely to cozy up to a roaring fire. The wine industry on the Granite Belt is going strong with many vineyards offering tastings and old fashion country hospitality at their cellar doors. There are also lots of other industries such as stone fruit, apples, cheese making and a rustic cidery where you can try apple juices and cider.
Everywhere that we went the food on the Granite Belt was delicious using the freshest local produce. Lots of the wineries have cafes looking over beautiful rows of grapevines. It is truly a beautiful and spectacular place to visit where you will enjoy lots of yummy treats and the nice fresh country air. I can highly recommend a weekend on the Granite Belt if you are ever visiting South East Queensland.
